Raising Awareness for ScanCafe.com through an April Fool’s Joke

Bernie Madoff attracts the attention of Gawker.com

For Silicon Valley-based ScanCafe.com, the challenge was to get the word out about their huge human resources to help preserve America’s hardcopy photographs by scanning and repairing the images. On March 26, 2006, in time for April Fool’s Day, one of our readers submitted a picture of the notorious (and absolute Fool himself) Bernie Madoff “dressed as a pimp” (Bernie in a hot tub, on the tennis court, and dressed in fur and bling-bling). Gawker.com announced that “the ScanCafe.com picture could always be a prank …[but] We wonder who would go to this much trouble, though.” Well, we have an idea.
